There was a homeless problem when I moved to the Civic Center neighborhood in San Francisco almost 10 years ago. Today, the homeless situation is much worse, and let’s be honest with ourselves, it’s much more than just a homeless situation (and always has been).
The pigeons eating puke pretty much say it all – the perfect representation. Prior to COVID-19 when people still came to work in the Civic Center and tourism was still a thing, it wasn’t really that much different as it is today in that (for the most part) the people going to and from work and the tourists acted as though the homeless didn’t exist. The biggest difference though is that even with the blinders on some of these privileged humans would still throw change at the homeless “animals,” like breadcrumbs to the ducks in Stow Lake. Now, all those humans are gone (not coming to tour the city or working from home), so what conclusions can we come to with that in mind. More to come…
